This is a delightful children's book written by an accomplished zoologist, environmentalist and animal trainer that will bring giggles and a deep appreciation for the unhuggable animals to all readers! In my earlier years, I worked as a volunteer assistant to the author and we would present live bats, snakes, spiders and other "unhuggables" to children in educational programs at the zoo. It was a delight for the children to discover that snakes feel silky, not slimy, that bats have cute little foxlike faces and that a tarantula can sit calmly in one's gloved hand tossing forth gossamer strands of lovely silk. Even more important, each animal has a job to do in the environment that benefits us more than many realize. But what is really wonderful about this book is that it advises creative and safe ways for children to assist these animals in the wild. I haven't even begun to tell you about the wonderful humor and whimsical illustration throughout. Get it for yourself and see!
